Part 095

Ninety Five

Tia just stared at Jenny for a few moments before she poured herself a double, took a sip, then exclaimed, “Now I heard everything.”

“What?” Jenny asked.

“You could be living most women’s fantasies right now, and you think you have something better to do?  I don’t buy that.”

“What, you don’t think I have something better?”

“What?” Tia asked, interrupting herself for some more scotch.  “Who or what’s left in Buffalo to make you say no to him?”

“Other than my Nana, you mean.”

“Okay, I can sort of see that.  But couldn’t you, oh… I dunno, invite her over the border after you talked your dad into it?”

“I don’t know if she would say yes,” Jenny replied

“Couldn’t hurt to ask, could it?”

“And if she said no?”

“From what you’re not saying about your dad,” Tia leaned forward, “sounds like he’s not against her coming over, right?”  When Jenny nodded, Tia continued,  “So, good.  As for her, even if she stubbornly stayed there, you could probably use your dad’s resources to set her up in style that she’d never want again.”

“I guess.”

“So there, problem solved.”

“But that’s not the problem,” Jenny said.

“It isn’t?”

“Right before we left, when Shaun was killed-”

“Oh for the love of…” Tia cursed.  “The only reason I didn’t kill him was because I wanted to make sure you’d follow me back here.  You can’t tell me you want revenge against Big Bobby that badly.”

“When Shaun was killed, Russell had the guy who did all the wet work in his possession.  He grilled him for everything, said he got a solid case against the guy who killed Shaun.  And the guy who did the killing, he had a lot of data about Abe Harker in his cell.”

“So the stupid bastard was an intel goldmine.  So?”

“This ‘stupid bastard’ Russell had,” Jenny said, her voice starting to crack a little, “had some info about my mom.”

“Oh crap,” Tia said as she poured  Jenny a double…
