Jenny didn’t remember leaving the car.
She didn’t remember running for the woods.
She didn’t remember crashing through the trees, or starting to crash through them.
Jenny only knew what she was doing, right now.
How she got into the woods, where Tia was, that wasn’t on her mind.
Just the f’n’ trees and the running-
She ran right into someone.
Jenny didn’t recognize the woman.
She was dressed differently, long heavy skirt, puffy shirt, hair covered.
Jenny got up when she did.
“What the hell?” Jenny asked.
Have to go, the other woman… said?
Jenny held up her hand.
“Who the hell are you?”
Secord, she… said? Maybe? over her shoulder.
“Wait, like in Laura Secord?”
She heard a man’s laugh as she found herself back in the car.
“Wait, what?” she asked.
The guy who picked her and Tia up; Jenny found herself in his car.
Which had stopped, at the edge of the trees.
“Okay,” he said, “here we are, eh?”
“I don’t see the hotel,” Jenny said.
“No, we’re not there.”
“Hey, what the hell?”
“We’re going here first,” he said.
Jenny pushed out of the car and ran.
She made a run for the woods.
She crashed through the trees, headlong, bouncing off the wood she couldn’t rip away.
So many f’n’ trees, so much running-
Jenny ran right into someone.
She didn’t get up from the collision that quickly, giving Tia a chance to get up off the ground and stand over her.
“And what the hell are you doing?” Tia asked as she loomed over Jenny like a colossus.
Jenny held up her hand, trying to steady herself.
“Why are you out here in the woods?” she asked Tia.
“What, you don’t know why?”
Jenny looked at Tia warily not sure what was to come…
